Day 4 – Siena

We got up early on Day 4 and caught the train to Florence. We checked in to our room, dropped off our stuff and hopped on a train to spend the day in Siena… If you’re new here, I’ve been sharing photos of my honeymoon in Italy until the wedding ‘season’ starts up again. This blog is fairly new so there are a couple of engagement shoots up, otherwise my best wedding work is on the main site.

Siena is such a nice place. Cars are banned in the city centre (with a few exceptions), so we took a bus as close as we could and did the rest on foot. Walking through the narrow, hilly streets without hearing (or smelling) any cars is a pleasantly surreal experience. We took some time to visit some of the local shops and eventually made our way to the Piazza del Campo – easily one of the more beautiful piazza’s, looking back.italia_siena_20080430_0081italia_siena_20080430_0004italia_siena_20080430_0024italia_siena_20080430_0026

We took our time here, just sitting in the plaza enjoying the sun and the pleasant breeze, and eventually meandered to the magnificent Duomo di Siena.italia_siena_20080430_0039italia_siena_20080430_0056

The floor of the cathedral is entirely covered with elaborate mosaics. They keep a few of them uncovered, but the floors are only completely uncovered for a few weeks of the year.italia_siena_20080430_0060

We spent a lot of time here – the cathedral isn’t nearly as big as St. Peter’s, but there was so much to look at. We took our time walking back to the bus station but the day was winding down and we still had to catch a train back to Florence. One last look back at the cathedral:italia_siena_20080430_0077

and some scooters we passed on the way back to the bus station. You’ve never seen so many scooters assembled in one place… almost made me wish I had one.italia_siena_20080430_0086

The next day we’d set out to see all that Florence has to offer. stay tuned!
