Justine + Jesse . engaged!

I met up with Justine and Jesse as the last remnants of winter hung on to the city. We met up by Dow’s Lake on a day when it had been warm enough for the ice to have melted, but not enough for there to be actual water. I thought it might be cool to get out in the middle of the snow-covered lake, but thought it might not be worth the risk. We discovered though, that it was perfectly safe for small, ambitious dogs!

We walked around the Arboretum for a good part of the afternoon, and then off to Preston St. to reconnect a bit with the time they spent in Italy. Thanks for a great afternoon guys! A few faves here, and a handful more on my facebook page.

Emily + Matt . engaged!

Winter seemed a bit short this year didn’t it? It doesn’t seem like that long that I met up with Emily and Matt on the Rideau Canal for their engagement shoot. After a short skate downtown, we went for a walk beside the canal, stopped off for a beavertail, and strolled through Confederation Park to take in a bit of winterlude.

Michaela + Joe . married!

“This is soooo crazy!”

It might’ve taken a while for it to all sink in with Michaela. I don’t know if it started when she was about to get in her dress, or when the girls were getting ready to leave, or even when she and Joe exchanged vows in the church packed with close friends and family, but everyone knew that even after the ceremony, Michaela still couldn’t believe it!

I closed out 2011 with Michaela and Joe on a beautiful winter night. I started at Michaela’s parents’ place where she was having the finishing touches put on her makeup, and into the dress, and then off to St. Monica’s to a full house. Afterward we set off to the Museum of Nature, where the music started as soon as Joe and Michaela walked in, and I’m guessing, didn’t stop until well into the next day!

Sabrina + Sébastien . engaged!

I met up with Sabrina and Sébastien on a beautiful day at the Aylmer Marina. It was a clear, sunny (and a bit windy…) day and took advantage of all that beautiful sunset light as we walked around the Marina. We stopped off on the small beach for a ‘family’ portrait, and then off to the Byward Market to spend a bit of time in the courtyards where they first met.

Amy + Joël . married!

Who knew there were so many Beatles songs with the word ‘love’ in it? Of course, Joel’s father, a music teacher at my high school during my (and Joel’s, and Amy’s) time there would know.

Amy and Joël were married on a beautiful late fall day at the end of October. I started the day with the girls at Amy’s parents’ place, then off to Notre Dame Basilica for a beautiful ceremony. Amy and Joël decided to get photos done at the Museum of Nature, and then, since the weather held up (though it was a bit chilly!), we went off to the Rideau Falls Park to catch the view and some fall colours as the sun was going down. Afterward it was off to the Delta City Centre for dinner, dance, some serenading, and the most confusing (and entertaining) competition for centerpieces ever!

Michaela + Joe . engaged!

Michaela and Joe wanted to go to two locations for their engagement shoot. Now — I always encourage couples to pick a place that means something to them, so I don’t know why I thought it was an unusual place to do part of a shoot. It turned out to be a good bit of fun watching them pore through the vinyl collection, and picking out a few of their favourites. Both being music lovers, they told me they spend quite a bit of time together exploring for good music — and playing too! After CD Warehouse, we spent the rest of the shoot in Vincent Massey Park, where I was fortunate to be an audience of one as they played songs for each other against the backdrop of the fall colours.

Annie + Bernard . married!

Annie and Bernard were married on a beautiful (but a little chilly!) early fall day. I met up with the guys first at the Auberge Montebello, and then to the Chateau Montebello to spend some time with Annie and the girls. The ceremony – touching, and funny at times – was at Notre Dame de Bonsecours. We came back to the Chateau for picture time, and then off to the Chateau Montebello Club de Golf for an outstanding dinner, drinks, and dancing.

Adele + Andrew . married!

As so many new students descended on downtown Ottawa to move into new residences, Adele and Andrew were getting ready to be married. Sure it rained, but it wouldn’t be enough to wipe the smiles off of either of their faces.

I started the day with the guys at Adele and Andrew’s house, then off to the Westin to catch Adele and the girls getting ready. I got to Greyhawk to watch the guys put the finishing touches on the ceremony site, but as the school buses carrying many of Andrew and Adele’s guests rolled in, a collection of ominous-looking clouds followed (or maybe it was just one big one). As the ceremony time rolled around, it started raining.

Hard.

We thought we might wait it out, but by the time the rain had subsided, the original ceremony location had turned into a small pond. So the staff at Greyhawk sprung into action to get everything arranged inside for the no-less-touching ceremony. Finally, the rain had gone away but left us a pretty dramatic sky – long enough for us to get out and do some photos on the course, which left the rest of the night for drinks, dinner, dancing, some… interesting diary revelations, and even a couple of human pyramids!

Sarah + Andreas . married!

It should’ve been a sweep. The Oscar was for Best Brother, but it should definitely have been for best picture, best actor, actress, and almost certainly best screenplay.

Sarah and Andreas were married on a beautiful, sunny day in late August. I arrived at City View United church just as Sarah arrived to be walked down the aisle. After the ceremony, it was off to the Arboretum for photos, and to pay a visit to a very special tree Sarah and her family had planted some years ago. A pleasant and scenic drive in a vintage Chevy took us to the Hilton Lac Leamy where dinner, dance, and an exclusive screening of what’s sure to be one of the most memorable movies (documentary?) of the year!
