Just wanted to write a quick post to wish everyone out there a wonderful start to 2009! 2008 was certainly a great year and 2009 is already shaping up to be just as good.
I also wanted to share what I’ve been up to for the last 3 days — my brother and sister-in-law are having their first baby in april and had asked me a little while ago to paint a mural in their nursery. I was a little hesitant at first since I can’t even remember the last time I put paint to canvas, that and paint was never really my medium of choice. But in the end, I think it turned out really nicely, and they can’t wait for baby to see it for the first time!
My wife had the idea to shoot a timelapse video of the whole process, so here’s 9 hours over 3 days compressed into about a minute and a half (cameo appearances by my wife, my brother, my sister-in-law’s feet, and their cat):

and here are some of the details – the only requirements were the very hungry caterpillar and Charlotte’s Web, but I just had to incorporate something from Calvin & Hobbes:

oh, and in case you’re wondering — the original intention was to paint it right on the wall, but I thought putting it on canvas would be better in case they moved houses, or if they wanted to move the paintings when baby switches bedrooms.
