Michaela + Joe . married!

“This is soooo crazy!”

It might’ve taken a while for it to all sink in with Michaela. I don’t know if it started when she was about to get in her dress, or when the girls were getting ready to leave, or even when she and Joe exchanged vows in the church packed with close friends and family, but everyone knew that even after the ceremony, Michaela still couldn’t believe it!

I closed out 2011 with Michaela and Joe on a beautiful winter night. I started at Michaela’s parents’ place where she was having the finishing touches put on her makeup, and into the dress, and then off to St. Monica’s to a full house. Afterward we set off to the Museum of Nature, where the music started as soon as Joe and Michaela walked in, and I’m guessing, didn’t stop until well into the next day!

Adele + Andrew . married!

As so many new students descended on downtown Ottawa to move into new residences, Adele and Andrew were getting ready to be married. Sure it rained, but it wouldn’t be enough to wipe the smiles off of either of their faces.

I started the day with the guys at Adele and Andrew’s house, then off to the Westin to catch Adele and the girls getting ready. I got to Greyhawk to watch the guys put the finishing touches on the ceremony site, but as the school buses carrying many of Andrew and Adele’s guests rolled in, a collection of ominous-looking clouds followed (or maybe it was just one big one). As the ceremony time rolled around, it started raining.

Hard.

We thought we might wait it out, but by the time the rain had subsided, the original ceremony location had turned into a small pond. So the staff at Greyhawk sprung into action to get everything arranged inside for the no-less-touching ceremony. Finally, the rain had gone away but left us a pretty dramatic sky – long enough for us to get out and do some photos on the course, which left the rest of the night for drinks, dinner, dancing, some… interesting diary revelations, and even a couple of human pyramids!

“Okay, now I’m getting excited”

When I met up with Christine, she was literally shaking with nervousness. But the closer she got to seeing Alex, the more the nervousness turned into excitement.

Christine and Alex were married on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon at Orchardview. I spent some time with Christine and the girls while they were getting ready, and then down to meet Alex and the guys just before the ceremony under the gazebo got underway. We walked around the grounds for photos as guests enjoyed cocktails under the tent, and then inside for dinner and dance, including some wonderful speeches, and a few choice words of… advice

Annie + Bernard . engaged!

Annie, Bernard and I met up on a gorgeous spring evening in New Edinburgh. We went down to a nearby lake, and then off to the bridges near old City Hall. Both places I’ve never been before, but which Annie and Bernard have gone to often.

Shubha + Richard . married!

Shubha and Richard kicked off my 2011 wedding season on a beautiful spring afternoon in early May. All the cold and all the rain that Ottawa had been getting the weeks running up to the wedding finally subsided just in time. I started off at Richard’s parents’ place with the guys, and then off to Shubha’s mom’s to spend a bit of time with the girls. The rest of the day was spent around the Dow’s Lake area – A beautiful ceremony at Lago, followed by a warm, breezy walk through the Arboretum and around the boardwalk around the lake, and then back to Lago for dinner and dance to close off the night.

Allison + Mike . engaged!

I met up with Allison and Mike on a chilly sunday evening for their engagement shoot. As the sun made its way behind a few clouds, we started out indoors and then moved on to nearby Hampton Park to spend some time in the snow.

We were hoping for fall colour but got winter white instead! I met up with Charlene and Max at the Black Rapids Rideau Locks on a November day that looked more like January in some places, and felt like February at times. It was colder than we were prepared for so we took a little less time than normal, but the site was rife with opportunity and made the most of it. Thanks for a fun shoot guys! Here are a few faves:

I met up with Shubha and Richard at Vincent Massey Park for their fall engagement shoot. A couple of things I really love about fall: the obvious one is that the colour of the trees changes, but what I think some people forget is that once the leaves are off the trees, the ground changes colour too! So we walked around among the trees and through piles of leaves, and finished up at their favourite pho place for dinner. Thanks for a great shoot guys! Here are a few faves:

I met up with Christine and Alex on a chilly fall evening at the Arboretum. It was their first time there so they were willing to let me explore a bit. We managed to find a few spots even I hadn’t been to yet. With winter just around the corner, the sun doesn’t stay out as long these days, but fall light is so magnificent and we were able to take good advantage of it! Here are a few faves:

Krissie + Corey . married!

For the first time ever, I watched a groom stand at the front of the aisle, and make vows to two people.

Krissie and Corey were married on the first Saturday of the fall. During the day it was cloudy, but never too cloudy; the sun came out but it wasn’t too hot; and it rained but not enough to need an umbrella. You couldn’t have planned a better day, no matter how thorough the spreadsheet . I spent a bit of time with Corey and the boys doing some last minute sorting of flowers, before sorting themselves out; then it was off to spend some time with Krissie and the girls.

Family and friends gathered at the Canadian Golf and Country Club for a beautiful, and quite touching ceremony where Corey made vows not only to Krissie, but to Krissie’s daughter (Their officiant, Alan Viau sums it up nicely here). Afterward , we spent some time around the ceremony site for photos and then off to the clubhouse for dinner and dance.
